What is the FPL?
In the beginning, there was the
Comic Book Universe Battles
at this humble website that went by the name of
Electric Ferret
In a nutshell, the CBUB is where people can put their favourite pop culture icons (from comics, anime, sci-fi, fantasy, movies, etc...) together for imaginary confrontations; such as, what if Pokemon fought Digimon? or can Superman beat Goku? and so on. People discuss, and then vote to see who wins. It was from this idea that the Fantasy Powers League was born... now, you can create your very own hero or villian, and pit your own creation against those of others.
How the FPL works...
The FPL character creator is simple to understand and easy to use. Just enter all the necesary data required for your character. I need not explain too much, since the creator itself also has its own step by step guide. To cut long story short, you begin with 250 power points which you can spend on your character's vital statistics and special abilities. Once you've spent 230 points or more on your charcter, submit him/her, and then e-mail the graphics admin a picture for your character and you're good to go! FPL battles use a vote-based system to decide who wins in a fight; now, that brings us to...
Fighting FPL Battles...
Characters start their battles in the Lower Division. After five wins, they move up to the Elimination Round. Each win the character gains in battle, he/she will be awarded 15 power points... these power points can be accumulated and then spent via player utilities to upgrade existing abilities, or buy new ones. However, power points CANNOT be spent until your character reaches the Elimination Rounds at five wins. At six wins, the character will become a character of distinction, and gain a permanent place on his/her team page; at eight wins, the character will enter the Hall of Fame and possibly have a shot at the Main Event, and is also eligible to participate in the annual Contest of Champions. Now, speaking of winning... what happens to losers? We'll see, further down...
Losing a battle...
If at any time your opponent has more votes than your character, then your character is beaten, and will have one loss slated in his/her fight record. Once a character has accumulated three losses, he/she will be removed from the game and written onto the Wall of Doom, acting on current rules. (The old rule used to be two losses and the character's out) However, it is also possible for a character to be out of the game even before he/she has gotten three losses. This occurs when there is a
FATALITY
, or when one of the FPL admin declares a
GODSMACK
on the character. In the case of the former, a fatality occurs when a character loses by a 3:1 vote margin, or greater. (The old fatality margin, I believe was 2:1 - now it is merely termed as a Blow Out.) When your character receives a fatality loss, he/she will be instantly removed from the game and slated onto the wall of doom. In the latter, a Godsmack is delivered when the character is of unacceptable standards, (eg. too short a background or power descriptions, overpowered ability descriptions) a blatant copyright ripoff (you MAY make veiled references to copyrighted material, or create spoof characters... but will CANNOT base your characters on copyrighted stuff like Marvel, DC, Image, Dragonball and the like. ) Or has offensive, or potentially offensive content. Examples of downright offensive characters include, but not limited to, those based on drugs, faeces, urine, farting, porn, rape and racist slants. Also, characters get Godsmacked when occasional system glitches cause their character sheets to get screwed, or when no picture for the character has been sent after submission (one week), and last but not least, because the creator requests for one. When a Godsmacked is delivered on a character, it places 100 votes against him/her - almost always ensuring a fatality and thereby flushing out the character.
