It had begun to rain in the small village of Ceachos. All of the villagers were down for the night, however a light shone through the window of one hut. Inside was a young woman named Tessa and her mother who was lying in her bed ill.

Mother is there anything I can get for you? Tessa worriedly asked.

No my darling, but you can come over here and sit beside your mother for I have something to tell you and it has to be now before it is to late. replied her mother.

Tessa, who wanted to please her mother, went over and sat beside her. Her mother began to talk about after she is gone there’s something she needed her daughter to do.

Tessa broke in, I don't want to hear that kind of talk mother, we’ve been over this before. If you die I will be all alone in this world. Tessa said with tears rolling down her cheeks.

She tried to hold back the emotions but she knew it was getting nearer and she just couldn't hold in her sorrow any longer.

Her mother reached up to touch Tessa's cheeks, to wipe away the tears, she quietly replied. No you won't Tessa, you won't be alone, that is what I have been wanting and trying to tell you.

What do you mean mother, I won't be alone? Tessa questioned.

“You know your father loved us very much even though he left, what I've never told you is that he was married to another woman before we got together.

Tessa stood up in amazement, What do you mean mother? What are you trying to say?

Sit back down Tessa and I will tell you everything. Your father had a son by his first wife but would never talk about him. The only thing I could ever get out of your father was that his son traveled and supposedly did good for people. I don't know because his father always believed him to be just a trouble maker.

Tessa let out a sigh and said, You mean to tell me I have an older brother out there somewhere?

Yes my love, you do and I want you to promise me that when I finally leave this world you will go in search for him!! Promise me this Tessa, you will go and look for him so you won't be alone in the world.

But mother, if father never told you his name or where he lives, where am I to begin? Tessa asked in confusion.

I do know about his travels and someone in Corinth should know his name, if you just ask for the son of Skouros. I am sure they could point you in the right direction to find him. Promise me Tessa, promise me you will look for your long lost brother after I am gone.?

I promise you mother, I will find my brother. Tessa said through her tears.

Thank you my darling. Now if you don't mind I am feeling a bit tired, I best get some rest now, her mother replied as she drifted off into slumber.

I have an older brother!! Tessa kept saying over and over to herself as she stared out of her bedroom window. I wonder what he is like??

The next morning Tessa woke up bright and early like a giddy child. The news she had been told the night before, shocked and excited her. While she was getting dressed, something outside her window caught her attention. It was a beautiful blue jay and she thought to herself that it was going to be a wonderful day. The sun was shining bright, brighter than she had ever remembered it shine before. The sky was an azure color with only puffy white clouds scattered few and far between. Tessa thought to herself that she should begin to do her chores if she was going to enjoy this glorious day. She went into the kitchen to begin making the morning breakfast as she had always done or at least since her mother had become very ill. She was gathering all the things she was going to need to cook the breakfast she decided to go and ask her mother what she would like for breakfast. Her mother's appetite has been decreasing slowly with every passing day because of her illness.

Tessa put the pots down and walked to her mother's room where the door was closed to keep the drafts from coming through. She gave a little tap on the door and ever so quietly walked on in. Her mother lay in her bed looking just as beautiful as she ever had and Tessa thought to herself that she would let her sleep until she felt like getting up and eating. Tessa would just warm her breakfast up when she got out of bed on her own. However, she couldn't pass up the chance to kneel down beside her mother and give her a small kiss. As she knelt down beside her mother she could see the very shallow breaths that her mother was taking and knew the time was almost near, that soon she would be gone.

Tears rolled down Tessa's face, her mother's hand touched her cheek and she said, Don't cry my blossom, remember you're not alone in this world anymore, you have your brother to find. The Gods are calling my name now, Tessa swear to me you'll keep your promise and find your brother.

I promise mother no matter what, I will do my best to find him. Tessa sobbed.

With her last breath she said to Tessa, I love you my angel and if you ever need me call out my name, for I will always be with you. And then she was gone.

Tessa sat there draped over her mother's body, crying and asking, Why, why did you have to go and leave me all alone now? Why mother?

A whispered voice came to her and said, You are not alone, start your quest to find your brother.

Tessa looked around the room but there was no one there, the room was empty except for her mother and herself, but it made her remember her promise she gave to her dying mother.

I shall leave tomorrow after I have buried her. Tessa said in a sorrowful way.

Tessa was finishing packing up her horse with things she thought she might need for her travels. After all, her mother mentioned Corinth and that was a few days ride from her village. She had made sure she would be in want for nothing and even brought some extra things.

Well Maximilian are you ready for our traveling adventure?” Tessa mused to her horse, “I’m a little afraid you know. I've never been to far away from the village and now I’m off to Corinth to hopefully find some news that will lead me to where my long lost brother is. Oh well, let's get on with it. The sooner we start, the sooner we’ll get there.

The young beautiful girl mounted her black horse, she paused to check that her Kitana sword was in its' leather holster that she had made herself, she placed her dagger on the left side of the saddle. She finished making sure she had everything she needed. Sighing, Tessa knew she was ready to face whatever was out there that she might encounter on her way. She clicked her heels, reigned in her horse and headed towards Corinth and a part of the world that was unknown to her.

Tessa gave one look back at her home she was leaving and tears began to run down her cheeks. She then looked up at the sunny sky and said, Well mother I’m keeping the promise I made to you so wish me good luck. A wonderful breeze blew up and Tessa knew her mother had heard her and a smile came across her face.

It was beautiful scenery that surrounded Tessa as she moved down the path. Tall trees that were the color of an emerald and flowers there were bunches of flowers along the roadside. When she realized she had been traveling quite some time now and the sun was going to be setting soon, Tessa decided to start looking for a spot to camp for the night and to get something to eat. Her stomach was talking back at her and she hadn’t ate all day. Before long, she came along a clearing to her left, she thought that this would be a great place to get a good night’s sleep before continuing her travels. in the morning. She was actually enjoying her journey, other than the fact that her mother wasn’t with her. She decided to let Maximilian rest for a while she went to investigate her surroundings. She was amazed that not to far from her campsite she had found a pond and boy did that water look good. Not only for drinking, she thought giggling to herself, but to freshen her self up a bit before dinner. She relished in taking a bath in the pond. After her bath, she had a pleasing meal of fish, of course, that she had caught and cooked at the campfire she had made for herself. Maximilian was still lingering by eating the grass for his dinner as he paid no attention to Tessa practicing her swordsmanship that her father had taught her as a little girl. She was very sufficient in using a sword, but she knew she had to be prepared for whatever might come her way. When the sun set, she decided it was time to go to sleep if she wanted to rise early to continue her journey to Corinth. She was hoping to make it there in a few days. She lay there on the bed she had made staring at the sky full of wonderful constellations and wondered what her brother was going to be like.

Would he even like me or want me? she thought to herself and as these thoughts kept entering in and out of her mind she soon drifted off to sleep.

The next morning came quicker than Tessa wanted it too it seemed her first night sleeping on the ground was not a pleasant one, But I’ll have to get used to it, besides I brought extra blankets, I’ll just put more down next time, and she rolled out of bed and stood up and gave a big stretch to get the blood in her muscles flowing again.

Good morning Max it is another glorious day isn't it? Well, as soon as I get packed up, we can be on our way.

Tessa packed everything back up and tightened her saddle pouch along with inspecting her weaponry. As this 5'6 girl stood next to Max she looked tiny compared to his size, she and her mount were as one though and she could hold her own. This morning, Tessa decided she had to change clothes because the longer skirt she was wearing was a bit bothersome to her as she rode, so she put on her short suede brown skirt with the half top to match.

Yes . she thought to herself, this has much more freedom and accessibility to my sword and will make my battle movements a lot more smoother and flowing in case something or someone comes along.

Now that Tessa was satisfied with her attire and flexibility for her movements, she again headed her mount towards her destination.

To Corinth we shall go Max, what we’ll find there no one knows, she let out a little giggle as she was in awe of this trip she was making.

The sun was beating down with just a warm feeling because the breeze took away most of the heat it was causing. However, she knew she was going to be tanned before this trip was over and that didn't bother her for she always got tanned plowing the fields.

Tessa was lost in her thoughts when Max began to snort louder than normal and began to get a little fidgety. She was coming around a bend in the road and could not see the path in front of her due to the shrubbery. Cautiously, Tessa rounded the bend, her body tensed at what she saw in front of her, four bandits standing in her path. The men were still a few hundred feet in front of her but still fear rose up within her, she never had cause to use her warrior skills and all the exit routes were blocked off. She knew from her father's teachings she could handle at least two of the men, but what was she to do about the other two?

Tessa slowly advanced towards the men shouting, Let me pass please, I am just on my way to Corinth and I have no money just my horse. Please let me pass!

As she slowly moved forward, she reached innocently behind her for her Kitana getting a good grasp of it as the men were advanced upon her as well. As bandit came to the left side of Maximilian, Tessa waited for the right moment to make her move. She stared at the man below her and the other three in front of her, waiting patiently.

Well , well look at what we have here fellows, a beautiful, long haired blonde girl, who is alone in her travels.

I am telling you the truth, now please sir, let me pass?

I don't think so. I think you have more to offer us than money if you know what I mean little lady.

As he ran his filthy hand up her leg, he looked towards his fellow mates and began to laugh. Yes I guess you’re right, I do have more to offer you, I have this you pig. Tessa had drawn her sword swiftly and belted the man over his head with it, knocking him out. She knew she had to move quickly, so she dismounted by doing a flip off of her horse and landing directly between Maximilian and the remaining men.

After her, one of the men said and the others took charge towards her. She tried her hardest to battle the three men off. Unfortunately, she could only put one more out of commission, but the other two she could only hinder a little bit. Not enough however, to escape their grasps.

As they held her and were trying to drag her into a very small clearing of bushes, she let out a loud scream of rage. No, leave me alone!

She bit one guy's hand and was rewarded when he let out a yell. Tessa kept fighting and screaming NO, at the top of her lungs.

Two men arrived at the fork in the road when the larger of the two turned to his companion asking. Did you hear that?

Hear what? The smaller of the two replied.

A girl screaming, Hercules said.

No Hercules, I heard nothing, listen buddy we have been helping people for so long now you’re starting to imagine people are screaming for our help.

Hercules replied, I am not imagining anything just stop and listen!

Again the screams came, only this time with muttered curses. No! Help!! Somebody, anybody please help me!!!!

Now did you hear that Iolaus or am I just imagining people?

No Hercules, I heard the cry for help this time too and it was coming from that direction, as Iolaus pointed to the fork in the road up ahead.

They both took off running as fast as they could, when they got to the clearing, they saw a beautiful woman putting up one heck of a fight. She was screaming, kicking and biting the two guys as they tried to pull her off the path of the road.

Hey is there a problem here guys? Hercules said.

No problem that we can't handle.” One panted as he twisted the woman’s arm behind her back.

Iolaus looked at his friend, well it doesn't look like the lady wants to go with them, now does it?

“No, sure doesn’t” Hercules replied as they advanced toward the bandits. I guess we’re going to have to show you how a lady is suppose to be treated.

With a look into each other's eyes, Hercules and Iolaus knew the signal and began to kicking some butt.

First, however, they got them to let go of Tessa by saying they would spare their lives if they did. Both Hercules and Iolaus knew they weren't going to kill these bandits just put a little fright into them so they would think twice of trying this again. Tessa stood aside and watched these two marvels in action. She was overcome with an emotion she had never felt before.

The four guys got up onto their feet and ran away but still yelling back at the three of them you'll be sorry you ever messed with us.”

Iolaus just replied, Yeah, yeah we hear that one all the time.

Tessa just snickered at the blonde one's sense of humor. Thank you both for saving my life, I don't know what would have happened if the two of you hadn't shown up when you did. How can I ever repay you?

No need of repayment,” said Hercules I am just glad we were here to help you . By the way my name is Hercules and this is my best friend Iolaus. And you are?

I’m so sorry, with all the commotion that went on my mind is a little preoccupied at the moment. My name is Tessa.

Well Tessa it is nice to meet you, can you tell me one thing though?

Sure anything. Tessa replied as she checked over Maximilian.

Why are you traveling alone and where are you headed?

I’m traveling alone because my mother just passed away and I am the only one left, well that is if I can't find my long lost brother.

Long, lost brother? Hercules said with a puzzled look on his face.

Yes, I have a brother and I’m trying to find him. I’m hoping someone in Corinth has heard of him.

‘What a coincidence, that’s where we are headed, Iolaus smiled at her. For a moment, she thought she might have met him before.

Yes, we are headed that way. Would you mind accompanying us on the last days of the journey to reach Corinth? Hercules politely asked. Besides you could use a little more protection, not that you can't handle yourself. And we could use someone new to talk too. You can tell us of this long, lost brother and where you came from, it will make the trip go a lot faster. Hercules waited for an answer.

How could she turn down an offer like that from a guy who had such gorgeous blue eyes that just made you melt right on the spot?

I would love to travel with you, but you also have to tell me some things about the two of you. Is it a deal?

It's a deal, right Iolaus?

Yeah, sure Hercules, sounds great and I won't have to just listen to your babbling alone.

Tessa and Iolaus both snickered at that last remark made by Iolaus.

Well then it's Corinth here we come!! Hercules bolstered.

When they’d gathered Tessa's belongings that the bandits rummaged through, the three of them continued toward Corinth. The day was still young. The three of them settled into a comfortable pace when Tessa decided she would start up a conversation.

So tell me you two, what is it that you guys do for a living? Tessa questioned.

We actually just travel around and when people are in need of our help we give it to them no questions asked, replied Hercules.

It sounds dangerous. Tessa mused.

It is dangerous, if you consider fighting monsters not dangerous then no what we do is not dangerous. Iolaus answered.

Wow, you guys fight monsters how exciting. Tessa tried to reply but Iolaus interrupted her by saying, Yeah if you're on the winning end maybe!!

Hercules said to Tessa We mostly help people like you. What we did for you just now, that is more of the kind of things we do.

I bet it’s very rewarding and you get lots of rewards for helping people like you do.

No, we try not to accept rewards, the rewards of safe villages, happy people is all we need. Hercules told her.

How noble of the two of you. Tessa said with an air of gratitude in her voice. So is that why you’re on your way to Corinth, to help some villagers or something?

No, Hercules replied, we’re just going to Corinth to visit some old friends.

I wish I could do what you two do Hercules, travel and help people. Tessa says.

It can be very demanding and very dangerous at times like Iolaus said earlier. Hercules reminded her.

Still it sounds like it would be exciting and rewarding. Tessa said with a smile.

Enough about us what about you where do you come from, we already know where you are going? Iolaus asked with intrigue.

Well, I come from a village called Ceachos and it is about maybe two days ride from here. It is a small, farming village where my mother and myself lived and where she ended up spending her last days at.

Hercules noticed tears welling up in Tessa's eyes and decided to change the subject. Why don't we talk about this quest you said you were on. The one about finding a long lost brother.

This was very intriguing to Hercules with how this young lady would take on such a quest and why?

How did you find out about him and how to start looking for him? Iolaus asked.

There's not much to tell, just that my whole life I grew up not knowing I had an older brother. Then, when my mother took ill and there was no cure for her, the years passed and she was getting worse and worse until one day she sat me down beside her and told me I had a brother, an older brother, from a different family. She made me promise her that when she passed on I would find him, so I would not be alone in this world. My mother always worried about me being alone, I don't know why, I can take care of myself, I guess she just loved me was all.

Tears flowed from Tessa's eyes, this time she couldn't hold them back. Iolaus reached out with a rag in effort to give her some comforting. Thanks Iolaus.

No problem. he mumbled.

Anyway, the only thing my mother knew of this older brother was that he was from my father's first marriage and he traveled a lot and would probably be known by someone in Corinth. Or at least they would know his father, my father, and that could lead me to my brother.

“Maybe we know his father's name. Do you know the name of your older brother? Hercules asked.

Maybe you might know him since you say you have friends in Corinth. I’m looking for the son of General Skouros', have you ever heard of my father or his son?

Iolaus stopped dead in his tracks! Turning to look at her, Iolaus asked with bewilderment. What did you say?

He is the son of Skouros, why do you know him or have you heard of my brother? Tessa said with some kind of excitement hoping they might have heard of him.

Iolaus said nothing just looked over at Hercules as Hercules looked back at Iolaus. Hercules's face had the look of surprise and of aren't you going to say anything look!?

Iolaus looked over at Hercules and said, No, we've never heard of him or seen him.

Iolaus started walking ahead of the two of them. Tessa asked, Hercules, did I say or do something to upset Iolaus?

No, he just gets temperamental sometimes for no reason. I'll go have a talk with him will be right back.

Take your time, I think I’ll hop up on Max for a little bit I hate to say it but I could use a rest from walking. Besides the view is better up here, she stated as she mounted her wonderful horse.

As she rode Max she looked around the beautiful open country side and watch up ahead as Hercules caught up to Iolaus. She wondered to herself what was bothering Iolaus?

As Hercules approached the hunter, Iolaus said, I don't want a lecture from you right now Hercules!!

Iolaus she's your sister, you have a sister that you’ve never even known about.

Yeah, one that my father stayed around and raised until he died I would guess. While leaving my mother and myself the first chance he got. I don't want to talk about it Hercules. Let her go to Corinth and try and find the long, lost brother because this one is dead to her.

Iolaus, you don't mean that! Hercules replied. Don't be foolish and let your pride get in your way of knowing your new sister!! Hercules said with a demanding voice.

They had been walking awhile in silence and didn't notice the time. Hey you two up there, dark is creeping in on us, maybe we should camp here for the night. I mean, we still have to set up camp and look for food. What do you guys think?

I think that sounds just fine. Hercules shouted back at her as he began his walk back to where she and Max had stopped to begin the necessary arrangements for a campsite.

Iolaus slowly came back to where the other two were standing.

Why don't the two of you go look for us some food of some kind and I’ill gather up some firewood for the fire? I’ll have everything ready by the time you two get back. I do hope at least one of you can hunt for us some food? she said with a joyful laugh!!

That sounds great Tessa, Iolaus and I will do just that, come on Iolaus let's go find some food. Hercules asked him.

Fine, whatever. said Iolaus.

As they hunted for food Hercules tried to talk some sense into Iolaus but he was so full of bitterness and hate he couldn't see the good right in front of him. Iolaus was filled with discontent on the fact that his father just left his mother and him for no reason, no warning and for what to go off and raise another family which he stayed with until he died.

She got to grow up with a father, that's a luxury I didn't get when I needed him the most. Iolaus shouted.

So you're not going to tell her you are her brother? Hercules replied in disbelief.

No I am not! She's lived this long without knowing me so why start now? Iolaus said no more.

As they hunted for food Hercules tried to talk some sense into Iolaus but he was so full of bitterness and hate he couldn't see the good right in front of him. Iolaus was filled with discontent on the fact that his father left his mother and him for no reason, no warning and for what? To go off and raise another family which he stayed with until he died.

Because she is alone in this world now and has no family but you. She’s keeping her mother's dying wish to find you so she won't be alone in this world. She wants to find you so bad she put herself in all kinds of danger just to go to Corinth in hopes of finding the slightest information on you. That has to count for something Iolaus, the fact that she would go through all she has just in hopes of the slightest chance you might want her in your life. Hercules retaliated.

Yeah, but Hercules she had something I could only dream of and that was a life with my father. Iolaus retorted.

And you are going to condemn her for something she had no control over? Hercules asked. Come on Iolaus it’s not like you to hold grudges, especially when there is not just reason for it.

Maybe you're right Hercules, maybe I am being to hard on her. But let me think about it tonight and I'll see how I feel in the morning. Now let's get hunting. Iolaus replied.

Iolaus' was carrying three rabbits he'd caught while out hunting when they got back to camp. Hercules had nothing in his hands since there was no fishing nearby. Just a stream where Hercules had gathered up some water for drinking and cooking. The campsite was all set up nice. All three beds were made for all of them. The camp fire was burning bright. Tessa even had a pan out to cook the food with something neither Hercules or Iolaus' was use to.

Both Hercules and Iolaus were amazed at how well the campsite looked. Tessa saw their expressions and asked, Is something wrong?

No, no everything's perfect but you didn't have to do all this. Hercules commented.

Well that's the way my mother raised me, to take care of family and friends. I hope I can consider you my friends? Tessa said with a slight hesitation.

Of course Tessa we are your friends. Hercules was the only one to reply.

Tessa began cooking the food, she decided to break the silence by asking them how they wanted their rabbit cooked.

Hercules and Iolaus replied at the same time, Well done please.

Tessa started laughing and said, You two think exactly alike as if you've been friends and partners all your lives. I always wanted to have someone like that in my life but with my father up and leaving my mother and I, well, let's just say I had to take care of the house and my mother. Tessa said with a slightly choked up voice. It left me with no time to make any long lasting friendships. I mean, there were people in my village I saw every day but as for a friendship like you two have, I never had time to find such a friendship. Tessa said somberly.

Iolaus looked at her and he no longer felt hate for her. Skouros did to her what he did to his mother and himself. He began to understand her a little more. Hercules was watching Iolaus and knew he was coming around.

Just hope he tells her soon. Hercules said to himself.

Well guys, it's time for me to clean up. Tessa declared.

I'll help, Iolaus said and the both of them straightened things up and packed them away.

I guess we better get to sleep you two if we want to get an early start. Hercules said.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Iolaus and Tessa said in unison.

While Hercules and Tessa slept, Iolaus lay there wondering how he was going to tell her he was her brother. Do I just go up to her and say ,'hi, I'm Iolaus, the long, lost brother you've been looking for Iolaus wondered to himself. How was he going to tell her when he didn’t know how she’d react to him not saying anything sooner? Morning came and Iolaus said nothing to her except good morning, Tessa.

After she replied back to Iolaus she said 'good morning to Hercules too.'

Good morning to you to Tessa, I hope you slept well. Hercules said back to her.

Why yes I did, thank you, that is when I finally fell asleep. I was thinking of my brother and if he is going to like me or not and if he is even going to want anything to do with me. Tessa answered back.

Iolaus looked over at Hercules and his friend was giving him that 'what are you waiting for look.'

Iolaus just turned away and began to walk on down the path towards Corinth. Iolaus looked back and said, “We’d better get a move on.”

Hercules replied, I guess he's right Tessa we should get going.

“Anything you say, as she stared into those baby blues. She says to herself, I'll follow you anywhere.

The day was again a perfect day. It was beautiful, warm, and filled with bright blue skies and puffy white clouds that were scattered all about. There was a slight breeze in the air just enough to where you could smell the honeysuckle in the air.

As they walked down the path to Corinth Hercules asked Iolaus if he was going to tell her or not.

Iolaus sighed. Yes, I am. I’m just trying to think of how I'm going to do it. What do I do, just go up to her and say, ‘by the way Tessa I am your long lost brother.’?

Hercules replied, Why not? The truth is always the best way isn't it?

Iolaus then said, OK, OK I'll go tell her now.

Iolaus began to walk back towards Tessa. He became extremely nervous almost to the point of feeling ill. When he reached her he quietly spoke the words. Tessa, there is something I have to tell you.

Yes, Iolaus what is it? She could tell that there was some reluctance in his voice.

This is really hard for me to say so be patient with me, OK here goes, Tessa I’m...

A native came running up to them screaming, Help please, my village is being destroyed by warlords and they're taking everything. I need your help please!

Hercules said, Hold on catch your breath and tell us where your village is and how far it is!

It's just up the path aways. Please, help us. The warlords are tearing everything apart. the villager said out of breath still.

Sure we will. Lead the way and we’ll be right by your side. Hercules said with some degree of assurance.

Iolaus? What were you saying to me before we were interrupted? Tessa wondered.

That will have to wait now Tessa, we must go and help these villagers. Iolaus said with some relief in his voice.

Tess nodded in reply as excitement and yet fear came up inside her because she will actually be doing what Hercules and Iolaus told her about and this pleased her all the same. They all hurried to the village they could hear the screams and cries of men ,women and children also the yelling of the ordering warlords.

We better hurry up it sounds like the warlords are winning. Hercules yelled.

They finally arrived at the village of Pompanos, where Hercules told Tessa to hide until he or Iolaus called her name when it was safe enough.

Tessa said, No I can't hide while these women and children are being tortured and pillaged.

You sound just like your brother all right. Hercules let slip out but recovered quite nicely by telling Tessa to take charge of the women and children and get them to safety. Tessa agreed without any hesitation whatsoever.

Tessa, Iolaus and I will take care of the warlords, try and stay out of the way.

I have no problem with that Hercules. I’ll take care of the women and children. Tessa retorted.

Tessa then took leave of Iolaus and Hercules and went to gather up all of the women and children she could find and get them to safety.

Arrows were flying and swords swinging Hercules and Iolaus did what they always do best and that was gave the warlords the fight of their lives. You hear a leader yell retreat, retreat. After the men retreated and the fighting had completely stopped. Iolaus went to look for Tessa but she was nowhere in sight. Iolaus saw a lady running behind a hut and he thought that was maybe where Tessa had taken all of the children. He made his way over to the hut only by carefully stepping over dead villagers and warlords. He finally got to the hut where the lady was hiding but there was no Tessa. He asked if the woman had seen a blonde young woman helping get the children to safety.

“The last time I saw her she was trying to save Atrius. the lady said in shock.

Where is Atrius now? Iolaus begged.

Well she got him safely to his mother of course. the lady replied back.

Iolaus just turned and began screaming, Tessa, Tessa where are you?

He screamed a couple of more times until finally he heard a slight moaning sound not to far from where he was standing. He began running to the moaning sound as fast as he could. He came upon a prone Tessa letting out the moaning sound. Kneeling down beside her, he could see that she had been shot badly by an arrow straight into the stomach.

Iolaus quietly said, Hold on Tessa. I'll fix you right up and you’ll be as good as new.”

By this time Hercules had made his way over to his friends. Hercules asked the villagers if there was a healer in this village and the lady replied, There was one but he is dead now, sorry.

Hercules knelt beside his friend to examine the injury. He looked down in dismay.

Hercules we have to do something and fast! Iolaus said frantically to Hercules.

All we can do Iolaus is remove the arrow and get her to Corinth as quickly as we possibly can. The sooner the better.

Hercules tried not to worry his friend more than he already was.

“But that's a half a days walk from here! Iolaus said back to Hercules.

Then we best hurry. We’ll make a travois to hook on the back of her horse so it will be easier on her as much as possible.. Hercules said with some warmth in his idea.

Iolaus bent down to Tessa and told her that he was going to have to remove the arrow now and that Hercules was building a travois for her so her horse could carry her as softly as possible.

Tessa said, Iolaus I am not afraid to die.

Die, you can't die not yet I have something to tell you! Iolaus gently told her.

Oh yeah that's right what was it again Iolaus? Tessa asked.

First let me remove the arrow from your stomach area. Now this is really going to hurt I won't lie to you so bite down on this piece of wood OK? Iolaus implied.

Sure, I will bite down on this but you have to hurry I am not feeling all that well Iolaus. Tessa said with a softness coming into her voice.

Tessa did as Iolaus had told her to do and finally Iolaus said, On the count of three I’ll pull, you got it?

She just kept on biting down on that piece of wood and shook her head in the OK manner that she was ready for whatever was about to come.

Now on the count of three I'll pull the arrow out, one--two--three” and with the sound of three he jerked out the arrow from Tessa's stomach. As soon as the arrow came out Tessa passed completely out which Iolaus was thankful in a way she was in no more pain.

As he did this Hercules was getting the travois ready to go. Hey Iolaus it's ready for her now bring her over here and lay her down. Hercules called out to Iolaus.

Iolaus gently grabbed Tessa up and started carrying her over to the travois where he finally laid her down softly. Iolaus grabbed the reins of the horse and began down the path to Corinth.

Hercules was a little behind them, he wanted to make sure the villagers were going to be alright now. After doing so, Hercules took off in a run to catch up to his best friend and his sister.

How is she doing Iolaus? Hercules asked.

She hasn't yet awakened, but she’s still alive. Hercules, what if she dies before I get to tell her I’m the brother she has been looking so hard for?

That won't happen Iolaus, we won't let it. Hercules said in a reassuring voice, giving his friend’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze.

I hope you’re right Hercules. I would never forgive myself. I was taking out my anger for my father out on her. May the Gods forgive me and let her live. I was so full of anger Hercules for my father I couldn't see straight.” Iolaus said with tears running down his face. I just can't lose her, not now we've just found each other.

We don't have much further to go before we reach Corinth, let's just try and pick the pace up a little faster. Hercules said.

As dusk was settling in, they reached Corinth. Iolaus took her straight to the healer named Solaris.

He knocked on the door and an old man answered, May I help you

Yes, we have a girl here who has been injured badly by an arrow, can you help us? Iolaus begged.

Why yes Iolaus bring her in Solaris said.

Hercules was already carrying her in when Iolaus turned around. Thanks Hercules!

Anything for family Iolaus as Hercules gently laid Tessa on the table. Solaris began to look at the wound. He gently started unwrapping it, asking, how did this happen?

She was hurt while protecting some women and children of a village not to far from here that was being attacked by some warlords. Iolaus answered him.

Tessa began to wake up. Where am I?

Iolaus went to her and quietly said, We’re in Corinth. You've been wounded by an arrow and the healer Solaris here is going to take good care of you and fix you up as good as new. Iolaus informed her.

She cringed in pain as she tried to sit up but fell right back down. Iolaus I need your help. I want you to go and see if you can find anything out on my brother before I die. Can you please do that for me, I'm sure with you and Hercules looking you will find out something, please? she cried to Iolaus.

Tessa that is what I was trying to tell you before the villager interrupted me. You see I’m your brother, I’m the son of Skouros. Iolaus said hesitantly and nervously.

You're my brother?

Yes, and I’m so sorry I didn't tell you sooner but I was so angry at you for my father leaving me and my mother to start a new family, your family. The one that I thought he stayed with, unlike with me. Can you ever forgive me Tessa? Iolaus asked with a tender voice.

Yes, yes I can, you see he left my mother and me too right after she got ill. He just left one morning with no word of good-bye. My mother always said to herself that he went off to war, but I knew better. So you see, I too grew up without him. That's why my mother wanted me to find you so badly, so I would not be alone anymore. That I still had family. Tessa said with pain in her voice.

Tessa I can't tell you how much it means to me that you are willing to forgive me after how I have treated you ruefully Iolaus said.

You didn't know the whole story and besides I probably would have felt and thought the same way she informed him.

“Now, if you two would excuse me, I have a patient to tend to Solaris said.

“OK, OK” Iolaus said, “I'll be just right outside.”

When his friend appeared outside, Hercules asked. Well did you tell her?

Yes, and she has forgiven me can you believe it?

Yes I can Iolaus, remember, you're related and you are the kindest person I know. What did Solaris say about her injury?”

“Just that it is really bad. Iolaus quietly replied.

Hi my name is Solaris and you are?”

“Tessa she replied.

OK Tessa, I am going to do everything I can to help you, but first I have to clean the wound up and see just how really bad it is.

Thank you Tessa said back to him.

Now this might hurt some so are you ready?”

“Yes, I am ready Tessa answered back to him with a little weariness in her voice. Just then a loud scream came from within the house. Iolaus bolted like lightening inside to see what was going on.

Tessa are you all right? Iolaus asked and he notice she had passed back out again. Iolaus grabbed Solaris and said, She will be all right won't she?

Solaris then told Iolaus that the wound was very bad and a lot of time had passed, enough time for infection to set in. I've redressed the wound now all we can do is wait and see if her fever breaks. Once the fever breaks I might be able to tell you more.

Iolaus walked over to Tessa and sat down on a stool beside her. Tessa I know you can hear me, you have to wake up and fight the fever so it will go down. We have so much catching up to do, please Tessa wake up!

Hercules was standing over Iolaus with his hand on his best friend's shoulder. Iolaus the best thing you can do for her right now is let her rest so she can fight the fever. Why don't we go to the tavern and get something to eat? Then you can come back and be at her side. None of us have eaten anything today so what do you say? That way you'll be nice and refreshed for when she wakes up and she will Iolaus, she will Hercules said with a determined sound.

I guess you are right Hercules, getting something to eat will keep me strong for the wait I’ll have for her to gain her strength back and get well. I just want to be gone as long as it takes to eat and then get back right away. I don't want to be gone any longer than I have to OK Hercules?

OK Iolaus that sounds fair now let's go Hercules helped his friend up from the stool and they both then left for the tavern.

Just enough time had passed for the two friends to get something to eat then Iolaus was right back at Tessa's side. The fever still not yet broken, although she kept fading in and out of consciousness.

Once, when she had awaken, she looked up at Iolaus and said, Tell me I wasn't dreaming and that you really are my brother.”

“No, Tessa you weren't dreaming I really am your brother, Iolaus replied.

Good for a moment there, I thought I hadn't found you yet, Tessa mumbled hazily.

Yes, you found me and you will never lose me again, Iolaus promised. Then she fell back into unconsciousness.

Solaris are you sure you know what you are doing? How long will it take for the fever to break, it's already been 5 hours? Iolaus questioned.

I really can't say son these things are uncertain we'll just have to wait and pray Solaris replied back.

Iolaus never left her side again, he waited impatiently for her to awake. Hercules just sat in the corner watching the pain and agony in his best friend's face.

Hercules she has to wake up soon, she just has to. She's coming around,

Hercules got up to be at his friend's side. Tessa opened her eyes and saw them both by her side. Hi you two, how long have I been asleep?”

“To long, Iolaus said. How do you feel, Tessa?”

“I am feeling much better now that I know I am not alone anymore. The pain seems to have gone away, Tessa said with some relief.

Hey Solaris she's awake, Iolaus shouted, and she is going to be just fine isn't she?

Solaris entered the room and come over to take a closer look. Well, your temperature has come down just a little, my sweet lady. Now, let's check out the wound on your stomach. Can you two please step back?

Hercules and Iolaus did what Solaris said. They waited in the corner while Solaris started unwrapping the bandage to put a new one on. As he finished unwrapping the bandage he noticed that the infection was still there and getting worse, meaning she wasn't in the clear as of yet. He rewrapped the wound and walked over to Iolaus to tell him the news.

She's not yet out of the woods and the infection in the wound seems to be getting worse. I'm afraid I've done all that I can for her. I'm really sorry Iolaus, Solaris said consolingly.

No, Iolaus shouted which then startled Tessa.

What is it Iolaus, am I getting worse?

Iolaus couldn't get up the nerve to tell her the truth so he said, No your fine, you'll be good in no time.”

“You're lying I can tell it in your face and eyes. Now, just tell me the truth Iolaus you owe me that much, Tessa's voice carried loud enough so she could be heard over in the corner where they still stood.

Iolaus walked over and sat down beside her and said, Tessa, it seems that the infection where the arrow went in is spreading.”

“So I am dying aren't I Iolaus? Tessa questioned.

No, don't say that, we don't know for sure. The fever still has to go completely away and maybe then the infection will start to heal, Iolaus said with some conviction in his voice.

It's OK Iolaus, I am not afraid to die and it will be for a good cause, saving those women and children, Tessa said with a convincing attitude.

But you can't die, we've just found each other, Iolaus cried.

If I do die, we will be together again soon Iolaus I know that for sure. With all the good you and Hercules do I'm sure of it. I'm just glad that I was like my brother even if it was only for a few days. You know the traveling and rescuing people for the greater good. I’m getting sleepy again, do you mind if we talk some more later? Tessa asked.

Of course not, you rest now and we'll talk later when you wake back up.”

“OK”, Tessa said. “Oh Iolaus, I’m so proud to call you my brother and if I had to choose what I wanted my brother to be like, he would definitely have been just like you.”

“And I am proud to have a sister like you, Iolaus said in return, she then fell into slumber again.

Did you hear that Hercules, she is proud to have me as her brother?”

“Yes, Iolaus I heard her and she is right, Hercules said.

Hours had gone by and she had not yet awakened. Iolaus was draped across her chest when all of the sudden Hercules sees the goddess Celesta, the so called angel of death. He motioned for her to go outside. I'll be right back Iolaus, I am just going outside for a second to get some fresh air.”

“OK, Iolaus replied back to Hercules.

While standing outside, Celesta you can't take her now, they've just been reunited, they haven't had a chance to get to know one another and they haven't had any time together. Please, don't take her, let her live please. Hercules begged the goddess.

Celesta stood there holding the candle of life. Finally, she said to Hercules, You know I don't make the rules Hercules, I just follow them. She has fulfilled her destiny, saving those villagers and reuniting with the brother she never knew. It is her time now, I must take her now so let me pass. Celesta informed Hercules.

Hercules had no choice but to let her pass. Celesta then turned back around and said to Hercules I will give them one last good-bye and that's the best I can do Hercules, I'm sorry.

Iolaus I feel strange, I feel someone near, I think it is my time to go, Tessa says as Celesta stands at the top of the bed.

No, I won't let you go, we have so much to tell each other, things about our lives. You can't leave me Tessa. Not now, please.” Iolaus cried and begged.

“Brother, I will never leave you, I’ll always be a part of you and I hope you will always carry me in your heart.”

“I will,” Iolaus said, “I promise you that much. Tears were rolling down Iolaus' face, Please Tessa stay with me, please don't give up please, Iolaus begged her. Fight Tessa fight, stay with me, please don't let me live alone again you're my family and family is supposed to stick by each others side.” With one last breath Tessa said, I love you Iolaus and will be with you always and I will always watch over you I promise.

With these final word she closed her eyes and was gone. Iolaus let out a horrific cry, Noooooooo, Noooooo, Tessa please open up your eyes pleeeeeeaase!!!!!! Tessa wake up it's me your brother, but there was no response.

Hercules walked over to Iolaus and said, She's gone my friend, you have to let her go now.”

“No, Hercules she can't be gone we just found each other she has to live.”

“Iolaus she is gone Celesta came for her, Hercules informed Iolaus. Look if it makes you feel any better, Celesta told me that she had fulfilled her destiny, which was to save those villagers lives and to find you.”

“Hercules, if you saw Celesta why didn't you try and stop her?”

“I did Iolaus, I did try but you know as well as I do she can't break the rules.”

“I know. It's just that we didn't have enough time together that's all. Iolaus then draped himself over Tessa crying and begging her to come back to him.

Come on Iolaus, you have to let her go and begin to mourn her. Believe me, I know it is hard but I don't think she would want you to hold on to her like this.

Solaris came in when all the commotion was going on and looked at Tessa, checked her over and then covered her with the sheet. Iolaus I am terribly sorry but I did all that I could for her I swear.”

“I know you did Solaris, I know you did, Iolaus reassured Solaris.

Hercules and Solaris then decided to leave the two of them alone just for a little while longer. Just to give Iolaus some more time with his sister.

I guess it won't hurt if I let him stay with her for just a little more time, Hercules thought to himself.

After a while had passed Hercules came back in and said, It's time for us to figure out where you think she should be buried Iolaus.

I know the perfect place and I think she would really like it there. Iolaus replied back to Hercules.

Iolaus then picked up his sister, holding her in his arms as he cried as he carried her back to be place in the travois. The hunter led the way to the perfect place for his sister.

It was on top of a hill overlooking Corinth. There were all kinds of flowers, honeysuckle and this one tree on this hill top. It was really a beautiful place.

Hercules asked Iolaus, Why bury her here Iolaus?

Iolaus replied, Well she said she had a mission that she promised her dying mother she would do no matter what and that was to find her long lost brother, actually me and she did just that. Right here in Corinth is where she fulfilled her promise. I think it is only right to bury her here where her dream came true and that was finding me.”

“You’re right Iolaus, I think she would find this place just perfect.

The tomb stone that Iolaus put up said on it, Here lies Tessa, a sister I never got to know but loved her just the same. Iolaus then placed some honeysuckle on her grave and walked away saying, If only we'd found each other sooner.
