Custom Levels in TR1-3

Ok. I'll spell it out. Good time to review what i learned recently and for those who know well to check my procedures if they're correct:

* if you look at the data folders (in your CD) of your TR games, you'll see these files with the ff. extensions:

      * level1.phd (of TR1)

      * wall.tr2 (for TR2)

      * jungles.tr2 (for TR3)

* these are the first level playable files. The idea is to create a data folder in your HD and to convert your TR exe files into a "no-cd" version so you can run the custom levels.

HOW TO INSTALL LEVELS

TR1 - TR2 - TR3

IMPORTANT :

I suppose that you own TR CDROMs

If you don't, you won't find here all necessary files to play TOMB RAIDER (and don't ask anyone for them).

TOMB RAIDER I

I suppose that you have TRI already installed on your hard-drive, e.g. in directory C:\tombraid.

Create a directory C:\tombraid\data

Copy following files from TRI CDROM data directory to C:\tombraid\data:

EIDOSPC.PCX

TITLEH.PCX

TITLE.PHD

Copy patched TRI exe into C:\tombraid.

Unzip level file into C:\tombraid\data

Rename it "level1.phd".

And ... play the game.

To hear all sound-effects, play the game with TRI CDROM in your CDROM drive.

TOMB RAIDER II

I suppose that you have TRII already installed on your hard-drive, e.g. in directory C:\TR2.

Create a directory C:\TR2\data

Copy following files from TRII CDROM data directory to C:\TR2\data

MAIN.SFX

TombPC.dat

LEGAL.PCX

TITLE.PCX

TITLE.tr2

Copy patched TRII exe into C:\TR2.

Unzip level file into C:\TR2\data

Rename it "wall.tr2".

And ... play the game.

To hear all sound-effects, play the game with TRII CDROM in your CDROM drive.

TOMB RAIDER III

I suppose that you have TRIII already installed on your hard-drive, e.g. in directory C:\TR3.

Create a directory C:\TR3\data

Copy following files from TRIII CDROM data directory into C:\TR3\data

MAIN.SFX

TombPC.dat

TITLE.tr2

Create a directory C:\TR3\pix

Copy all files from TRIII CDROM pix directory into C:\TR3\pix

Copy patched TRIII exe into C:\TR3.

Unzip level file into C:\TR3\data

Rename it "jungle.tr2".

And ... play the game.

To hear all sound-effects, play the game with TRIII CDROM in your CDROM drive.

You can also copy the cdaudio.wad file into C:\TR3\audio directory on your hard drive.

* CAUTION: when you run the "no-cd" patch for your .exe, you'll lose the original .exe so you may not be able to play the data on your CD. You must recopy the orig .exe from the cd if you want to go back to playing the original games. Or better still, before you run the patch, rename/back up your original .exe

* i got the "no-cd" patch for my .exe at "The Quad's Page" (click on “Tools” button and look for the download).

* most, if not all, custom levels can be downloaded in .zip (compressed files). You need the decompressor WinZip to extract the files within. They contain the playable files (.phd or .tr2) and some readme.txt for instructions.

* In summary, you must have the ff within the directory: data folder (with the playable level you downloaded and renamed), and the "no-cd" tr.exe to be able to play.

I will have a separate post for .tr4 playable files. The procedures are different.

I hope you get something out of this first. Lemme know if it's still unclear.
